How to Prepare for a Meeting with your Wedding Florist

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve finished a meeting with a bride and she’s given a huge sigh of relief and told me: “That was so much easier than I thought it would be!” I’ve run literally hundreds of new client meetings and that might be my favorite response.

When you walk into a meeting with your floral designer for the first time you don’t have to know everything. This is a get-to-know-you, let’s-see-if-we’re-mutually-a-good-fit sort of situation! My brides are often intimidated to meet with me because they don’t know the names of flowers or haven’t finalized their table count yet. (duh! No one has their final numbers a year in advance. I don’t expect you to!)

Once they realize that I’ve got a plan of action for the meeting, they find that they can just relax and have fun planning one of the most fun parts of the wedding. I’m not biased or anything. Flowers have the capacity to completely transform a space, but it’s my job to do that, not the bride’s. All she needs to do is give me the framework of her vision, which I’ll take and run with. At the end of the day, I’ll make the bride shine because I’ll bring her vision to life in ways she can’t even express!

That being said, I’ve got a few tips for you, sweet bride-to-be.

1. Come prepared with inspiration photos! Better yet, add me to your Pinboard. I can identify whatever flowers you like as long as you’ve got a picture of them. I’ll look at all your inspiration, identify the trends, and create something perfectly tailored to what catches your eye.

2. Be ready to ballpark some numbers – as in how many aisle markers or centerpieces you’ll need. I can’t create an accurate design plan unless I’ve got a working number of tables! It is 100% okay if it changes later, we just need to pick some numbers to get started.

3. I send my new client questionnaire before the meeting to help you start thinking everything over! I know there are tons of questions that you may not have considered, so this is your opportunity to start mulling over your answers in advance! Bonus: your answers help me be better prepared and ask you better questions during our meeting!

Flowers should be fun! It’s my job to make your life easier by learning your vision and then taking it off your checklist. I’ve got you covered, friend!
